What is the most important day of your life? Your wedding day! We all know that and many young woman spend years dreaming of it. For some, your wedding photos as well as your wedding favors are with you forever, unfortunately. This is the one thing that will travel down life’s highway with you, unless you burn them, of course. And, on your special day, the photographer himself will be there, every minute, every second, during every moment.
First thing is, you have to like him or her. If you don’t, your wedding shots will come out terribly. The photographer will be seen and heard by you and your future spouse, wedding party, family and friends. He/she is an extension of you and who you are. So, please, be extra careful in choosing this person and also in choosing your very bridal shower favors.
Secondly, make sure you meet the exact person that will be taking your photographs. Many times, the happy couple go to a Photo studio, admire their portfolios and hire the company, not the photographer. The special day comes and a stranger shows up and you don’t like them at all. Not a good situation. Just make sure you know exactly who is going to take your shots.
Number three, when you meet with a potential photographer, ask them a few very important questions:
See HIS work, not the company’s. How long has he been doing weddings? What will you be taking photos of during the day? Make sure he includes before the ceremony, at the ceremony and is one of the last to leave at the reception. What does he wear when he works a wedding? Does he bring an assistant? Does he/they expect to get a meal? How long before we see the proofs?
After they answer these questions, you will easily decide if they are the person you want to hire. But be aware, most photography companies will not allow you to speak any of their photographers. Many times, they don’t even know themselves who they can get to shoot your wedding. For them, it’s a crap shoot. For you, it’s your life. Be careful. They are one of the most important people on your special day.
